Asa was also a minister. He married Mary Bostick in 1834. He moved his family from Lowndes Co, Alabama to Polk Co, Texas where he died of Typhoid Fever.
On August 13, 1870, the part of Polk County west of the Trinity became San Jacinto County.
It is believed that his mother is buried next to him.
