John was the son of Rev. Wm S May, Sr & Elizabeth "Betsy" Browning.
He died of Small Pox within a day before his younger brother, Wm S May, Jr . who also died of the disease.
He is buried in an unmarked grave.
John never married.

According to contributor Carolyn Golowka #46935641 John is likely buried in the cemetery on the location where the Mount Gilead Church used to be located. There are two Mount Gilead cemeteries in Lowndes County. This one is located off of County Road 17, south of Interstate 80. The church building was there in about 1935 but has long since been removed.
