She was born in Oblong, Crawford County, Illinois; the daughter of William & Flora (McGovern) Manning. Growing up, she shared the house with four brothers: Joe, Fred, Elmer, John & Ray Manning; and three sisters: Florence Newlin, Goldie Miller and Lucille Manning, all preceeding her in death.

She was united in marriage on May 29, 1947 to Harold R. "Red" Ridlen. To this union 4 known children were born: Infant Son, Robert Keith, Donald Manning, and Richard Ridlen.

She spent her life as a mother but had been employed with the Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company in Oblong as an operator, then as a cook for the Crawford County Nutrition Center. She was a faithful member of the Oblong Evangelical United Methodist Church, as well as American Legion Post 219 Auxiliary, where she was one of the leaders of the Auxiliary Dinners for many years.

She leaves two sons, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law Scharlene Manning and Isabel Clark to mourn her death.

At the age of 81 years, she died at the Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center, Robinson, Crawford County, Illinois.
