Leonard J. Essex, 82, of Davenport, IA, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021, at UnityPoint Trinity Hospital in Bettendorf, IA. A Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery with military honors. Those wishing to attend will meet at 9:20 a.m., at the Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport to line up for procession to the cemetery. Following the graveside, there will be a reception luncheon at West Lake Park in the High Meadows Pavillion from 12:00 p.m to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 13.

Leonard was born November 5, 1938, to Sherwood Sr. and Anna (Bennett) Essex in Muscatine, IA. He proudly served in the U.S Navy aboard the USS Salamonie from 1957 to 1961. On May 1, 1963, Leonard married Pamela Wales in Aledo, IL. He worked at Genesis Hospitals for 15 years as a maintenance mechanic. Leonard was a member of the Oak Hills Gun Club and the NRA. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his beloved dog, Peaches.

Leonard will be missed by his daughter, Lannie Essex; grandchildren: Joseph (Lauren Fritz) Baker and Lacey (Shawn Bly) Baker; and his sister, Charlene White. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pamela; and three brothers.
