Thomas Herbert Dillie was born to William Henry Harrison Dillie and Angeline Thornburg Dillie a decade after his father returned from fighting at Vicksburg during the Civil War. There is some confusion about his birth year, but his father's Civil War Pension uses 1874 as does the Social Security Records. However, Census records seem to indicate 1873.
On 2 Jul 1897 he married Maryetta E. Van Landingham in Blackford County, Indiana. In the 1900 census they lived in Elwood, Madison County, Indiana. After the mill where he worked in Indiana closed he moved his family to Granite City, Madison County, Illinois to work in the steel mill there. After his retirement he worked as the building supervisor at the Presbyterian Church in Granite City.
He outlived all of his siblings, his wife, and two of his four children.
