Shockley B. Lee was born in March of 1874 in the Marion County, South Carolina area (or just over the state line in North Carolina) to Benjamin Lee and Hezelline Cribb Lee. The 1880 census shows him living with his paternal grandmother, Mansly Lee, in Marion County, South Carolina.

About 1895 Shockley married Mary Bertie King Lee, and they became the parents of Bessie Jane Lee, Annie B. Lee McDaniel, Ellen Nora Lee Watson, Jasper Coy Bradley Lee, Norman Bryant Lee, Sr., Robert Edward "Woody"Lee, Sr., Ruby Victorine Lee, and Spencer Billy Lee.

The 1900 census shows him, his wife, and three children living in Marion County and his working as a farmer. The 1910 census shows him, his wife, and five children living in Marion County and his working as a farmer. The 1920 census shows him, his wife, and eight children living in Guilford County, North Carolina and his working as a carpenter at a cotton mill. The 1930 census shows him, his wife, and three children living in Greensboro, Guilford County and his working as a carpenter in the building industry. When his wife Bertie died on Christmas Day of 1942, Shockley provided the information for her death certificate.

After 1942 Shockley seems to disappear from all records. He is probably buried somewhere in North Carolina and lived beyond the age of 68. Any help in zeroing in on his burial site would be appreciated.

Thanks so much to the King and Lee family researchers for so much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions. If a closer relative than I would like to manage this burial site, please let me know. I hope someone will add Shockley's photo to this site.
