SFC. Carter was killed in action from multiple fragmentation wounds on 5-12-1968 while serving as an Infantry Direct Fire Crewman with Co. E of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 196th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. SFC. Carter started his tour of Vietnam on 7-20-1967. SFC. Carter had 16 years of Military Service.

SFC. Carter is the husband of Mrs. Bernell D. Carter of 5502 Verbena Road, Jacksonville, Florida, and the father of one son Master Johnnie Carter III, and three daughters, Miss Michelle, Miss Carsen, and Miss Roxanne Carter.
