Alvan and his 2 brothers (Daniel W age 24 and John M age 26) along with cousin Thomas B (age 21), enlisted same day into Co G 29th Iowa Infantry. Thomas, who enlisted as a drummer, died of disease Mar 16 1863 Memphis,TN. John, Daniel and Alvan survived the war.
