I have researched this Bailey family for about 40 years now. There is absolutely NO proof or documentation proving that Patrick Bailey's first wife was Amanda Tripp (if anyone has any documentation and creditable sources PLEASE let me know - every time I ask anyone where they got this info from it is always "that I copied and pasted it from someone else"). I have personally searched cemeteries, libraries, archives, LDS resources, historical societies and have found not one piece of documentation proving what the name of the first wife is. I have researched in SC, Cobb, Gwinnett and Forsyth Counties in GA, and in Randolph County & surrounding counties in AL. I have DNA tested several descendants from the 5 children born to Patrick and the first wife and none have any Tripp matches that trace back to this first wife. In all the areas and communities that they lived in there were no families with the surname Tripp. In fact I have several descendants who believe her name to be totally different and I am more incline to believe that name since 4 out of the 5 children from the first marriage gave their daughter's that name as a middle name and only 1 gave their daughter the name Amanda. I am also more inclined to believe that name because there were families with this surname living in the areas that they lived in. Mrs. Bailey was born between 1800 - 1810 most likely in Georgia, married about 1829 or 1830 (no marriage record has been found) and died between 1845 and before 9 Oct 1849 in Forsyth County, Georgia.

Also as far as Patrick Bailey is concerned I have not found any proof that he ever had a middle name or initial. Every document that I have such as Land Deeds, Census Records, Witness to other people's Wills he as only used the name Patrick Bailey and these are all legal documents. I also have not found any proof that he came from Laurens County, South Carolina. On the 1850 and 1880 U.S. Federal Census he states that he was born in North Carolina and on the 1860 and 1870 U.S. Federal Census he states South Carolina. So the first and last census that he listed on have North Carolina as the state he was born in.

As far Johnathan Bailey (every record or document I have ever seen his name is spelled Johnathan Bailey not Jonathan and he has no middle initals at all) his death date are wrong. The date I have is 1 Oct 1862 (but I will recheck that to make that is the correct date).

I hope that everyone will have the correct information so that it will help you and anyone else who is researching this family. Please do not copy and paste what other's have without doing your own research to make sure it is correct, that is how wrong information spreads like wild fire.

If I can be of help please let me know.

Warm Regards,
