Ruth Gloria Schmidt went to see her Savior Jesus Christ face to face on Monday, June 7, 2021.

Ruth was born July 20, 1945, to Clarence and Mabel Moseng at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND. She grew up on a farm with three sisters and one brother in Greeley Township where she was a confirmed member of the Benedict Methodist Church. She attended Darrow Country School in Ward County and later went to junior high and high school at Sawyer Public School in Sawyer, ND. She graduated from there in 1963 and went on to attend Wessington Springs College in Wessington, SD. After that she went to Humboldt Institute Airline Secretarial School in Minneapolis, MN.

Ruth married Dennis Schmidt on October 10, 1964, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Minot, ND. After she was married, she worked at Newberry's and American State Bank, both in Minot. She and Dennis moved to Duluth, MN, and Great Falls, MT, while Dennis worked for the civil service. It was during this time they had 2 little towheaded boys that they named Jonathan and Mark. Eventually they moved back to North Dakota and settled in Sawyer where she and Dennis ran the Schmidt Insurance Agency while working the family farm. During her life Ruth also worked at ING and Trinity Hospital. Together she and Dennis had other business adventures including Rocket Express, a hot shot trucking company, and Ruden Healthy Oils in which they produced and sold hemp products.

Ruthie was an optimistic and curious spirit who had a love of learning. She was always curious about the world around her and the lives around her, be it friends, family, or strangers. As an extreme extrovert she made friends all over the world by simply chatting with them to find a common interest, and then shared her life with them. She was exceptional at reaching out to others and trying to help them. Problem-solving was her forte in that if you told her 'no' then she would most certainly find the most creative 'yes'—often something that would never have occurred to you because she was skilled at thinking outside the box. Ruthie was 'can-do,' she didn't see limits, and she could find the positive side of all situations. She was young at heart with a youthful fun to her. She was happy to learn whatever the neighbor kids or her grandkids were doing and attempted to try it too. If there was pool, she was in it. If there was a hill with snow on it, she was sledding down it.

Ruthie had a wide range of talents and interests. She loved all things Norwegian; gardening; quilting with her friends; walking with her friends; going to sporting events; nutrition, vitamins and a general love for health; shopping; going out for coffee; and catching up on the news through a phone call.

Ruthie loved to collect recipes and had proficient expertise at throwing parties and cooking for others. But more than cooking for others, she really loved cooking WITH others. She delighted in teaching her grandkids how to make krumkake, teaching her daughter-in-law how to make Swedish meatballs, and teaching her neighbors how to make lefse. She loved her "Wednesday Night Cooking Girls" with whom she would work to feed up to 200 people at Our Redeemer's Church. Her life was a blessing. Her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words. She will be missed beyond measure.

Ruth is survived by: her sons, Jon and Mark; daughter-in-law Shontelle; her "grands" Briella, Elise, Gideon and Jasper; sister Clara; brother-in-law John; sisters-in-law Vernetta and Bev; brothers-in-law Jim and Harlyn; and nieces and nephews Maria, Carmen, Ryan, Fritz, Tim, Kelly, Will, and Lanetta.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis; sisters, Shirley Huizenga and Cleo Gonser and brothers, Norman and Timothy.
