Miss Earle is Taken by Death
Miss Luella Earle, 74, member of one of Madisonville's pioneer families, died at her home, 718 North Main street, at 7:40 Friday night after illness of a year or more. The cause of death was given as pernicious anemia.
Funeral services will be held at the residence Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by the Rev. W. B. Strong, pastor of the Main Street Presbyterian church, and burial will take place in Odd Fellows cemetery.
Miss Earle was the oldest daughter of the late John B. Earle and Sarah Catherine Earle, and was born and spent her life in the house in which she died. Her father was a prominent attorney and realtor, and a picturesque character in civic life half a century ago. The town of Earlington was named for him. Miss Earle was born February 22, 1855. Her mother died in 1877, and her father in 1906.
The death of Miss Luella is the second to invide this patrician family in two years. Lucien Earle, a brother, having died in Los Angeles, California, where he had attained prominence as an attorney.
Although she had been ill for several months, and her condition became weaker day by day, Miss Earle never complained, and she did not give up her household duties until very recently. She had been the homemaker for the family, a woman of high culture and rare charm, who delighted in her friends and cheery gatherings at her home.
She had been a member of the Presbyterian church since early girlhood and attended loyally her devotions until illness intervened.
She is survived by three sisters, Miss Sarah Earle and Miss Portia Earle, who made their home with her, and Miss Augusta Earle, who lives in Washington, D. C. Miss Augusta Earle arrived home about the middle of the week to be with her sister.
