Miss Augusta Earle, 463 East Center street, the last member of on of Hopkins County's pioneer and prominent families, died in Hopkins County Hospital here at 5 a.m. today.
Miss Earle had been in the hospital since last November 20, She suffered a stroke on December 17 and death resulted from complications brought about by the stroke.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, South Main street. Dr. Doral Robling, pastor of Main Street Presbyterian church, will officiate. Intterment will be in Odd Fellows cemetery. Miss Earle was a member of the Main Street church.
Miss Earle was the daughter of the late John B. and Sarah Woolfolk Earle. Mr. Earle was a well-known attorney and for years was interested in coal business in and around Earlington. The tow of Earlington was named for Mr. Earle.
There were seven children born of this union, two dying in infancy. The four daughters here were Misses Luella, Portia, Sarah (Kitty) and Augusta Earle. Miss Luella died in July 1929; Miss Portia in July, 1943; and Miss Sarah in February, 1948. The son, Lucian Earle, an attorney in Los Angeles, California, died in January 1927.
The Misses Earle for many years made their home in the old Earle residence "on the hill" in north Madisonville. The property was purchased several years ago, the homestead razed and a sub-division, Earlwood Drive, now occupies that portion of land.
Miss Augusta Earle is survived by a niece, Mrs. E. B. Kellam, Captain J. B. Earle, U. S. Nave retired, of Coronado California.
