Obituary:

George Franklin Turney, Jr., 69, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021, in a local hospital.

He was a 1971 graduate of Howard High School and continued his education at Tennessee Temple School of Bible. He retired from Erlanger Hospital after 44 years of service. After retirement, Reverend Turney became the Pastor of Mt. Zion MBC #2 in Ringgold.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Turney, Sr.; brother, Thaddeus Lewis; sister, Renee Arnold; parents-in-law, Oliver and Louise Smith, Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Rosetta Turney; son, Marcus (Dana) Turney and Marlon (Dawn) Turney; daughter, Shemica (Melvin) Damron; six grandchildren; mother, Barbara Turney; brothers, Robert (Sandura) Turney and Emmanuel (Anita) Turney; sister, Barbara Atkins, all of Chattanooga; a host of other relatives and friends.

George will lie in state on Thursday, April 8, from 12:30-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Family services will be on Friday, April 9, at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Carlos Williams as the eulogist. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
