Joseph's obituary says he was born in 1842 in Bueren, Westphalen, Germany. He married Mary Suedhof on 1 Mar 1860 in Bueren. Immediately after, they came to America and settled in St. Louis, Missouri for 10 years. Then, they moved to Platte County, Nebraska and lived there 32 years. In 1890, they retired from farming and moved to St. Bernard (also in Platte County). He was survived by 5 daughters and 5 sons. His wife preceded him in death 3 years prior. Three children also preceded them in death. He also left 91 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
