As a child he moved with his parents and older brother Andrew to live on a homesteading Kim, Colorado. During this time of living on the homestead his sister Trelia and youngest brother Norvel were born. Unfortunately the dustbowl hit and the family left Kim, Colorado and returned to Denver. John's father spent quite a long time in Fitzsimmons Hospital being treated for Dust Tuberculosis. His mother worked very hard taking care of four children until their father was well enough to come home, find employment and maintain being the patriarch of the family.

John met Rebecca F. Dowd in 1947and they were married in March of 1948. John was drafted into the U.S. Army in August of 1953 and returned home from occupied Japan in May of 1955. This was a true blessing because he made it home for the birth of his eldest child Brenda with not much time to spare. John and Rebecca went on to have two more children John and Diana. All three children were born in a 3 year span.

John and Rebecca were the instrument of teaching their children about God's love, faith, and the church. They also taught their children Compassion, respect, hard work, virtue, morals, and ethics. The most important thing they taught their children was to love god, our faith, family, your neighbor, and how to live as Jesus wants his children to live. John and Rebecca's children lived as their parents lived. We lived from example and we have grown up to be who we are from their example.

John and Rebecca had a one of a kind love story, being together for 73 years of marriage. They became one in body, soul, emotion, and spirituality. You never saw them together without dad holding mom's hand. John and Rebecca loved each other more than anyone could possibly imagine. She was his life and he was her life. They were again as stated one body, one soul, one spirit. They were one.

John's love for God, Mother Mary, Jesus, and all the saints was astounding. This was shown in how he lived. His love for his family, neighbors, and anyone that needed help. He always had a kind heart and was the most giving man towards everyone. He mentored children and taught them things they wanted to know and became an instrument in their lives until his passing.

John started working for Mountain Bell in August 1957, retiring in 1983. He started as a cable splicer working his way up to Foreman. When he became a Foreman, many men drove miles so they could work under him. When he retired the crew who worked for him transferred to other locations, as not having him as their supervisor was very distressing.

John loved to golf, if you wanted to find him he would be on the Golf Course in the early morning with his friends and retirees from Mountain Bell. He golfed until he was 89 almost 90 and shooting his age. When John and Rebecca were young they enjoyed many days golfing and as they got older they would take their clubs on vacation or to closer locations and enjoy a good 18 holes.

He loved his grand children and his great grandchildren with all of his heart. He was always there for them in all times of their lives. He adored them and they all said that, "Grandpa can do or fix anything." All his grand children, children and especially his wife knew he could do anything that needed to be done.

John's passing has left his family devastated and with a huge hole that will never be filled. We have all been so blessed to have had him as a husband, a father, and a grandfather. He will be missed more than words can ever express.
