Lonnie Jo Gates January 2, 1932 - April 8, 2012 Visitation for Lonnie Gates (80 yrs) will be held in the Basham Funeral Care Chapel (3312 Niles Street) on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Long time Bakersfield resident Lonnie, was born January 2, 1932 in Friendship, Arkansas, and passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loved ones. Formerly married to Donald E Scott of Bakersfield for nearly 10 years, later married her true soul mate Donald Wayne Gates, until his passing in 2007. Lonnie and Wayne were married nearly 45 years and enjoyed camping and fishing in their RV. Lonnie found joy and fulfillment as an intercessory prayer counselor throughout the Southern California Christian community. Lonnie was a long time member of the Bakersfield Chinese Church (The Garden) and The Father's House. Lonnie is preceded in death by her mother and father, 4 brothers, both husbands and son Donald Jr. Lonnie is survived by four of her children: Mary Michele Scott, Matthew Scott and family, Lynice Cowherd and family, and Deidra Gates and family.
