Donald Gates of Orcutt passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the age of 71.
Donald was born December 10, 1935 to Edgar and Flora Gates in Paris, Texas. He was raised and educated in Bakersfield and graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1953. He worked in the oil industry in Bakersfield and Ventura, and moved to Santa Barbara County after his retirement in 1991.
Donald was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bakersfield. He loved to fish, dance and cook.
Donald is survived by his wife Lonnie Jo Gates of Bakersfield; daughters, Lynice of Bakersfield and Dierdra Grates of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; sisters Oletha Brownfield of Orcutt and Evelyn Carillo of Bakersfield.
Cremation will be followed by private interment in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.

Donald Wayne's helpmate and spouse, Lonnie Jo Shinn Scott/Gates (2 Jan 1932 Arkansas - 8 Apr 2012 California), were joined in matrimony on 6 Aug 1959 in Nevada. Lonnie Jo and Donald Wayne had two daughters from their marriage.
Lonnie Jo had four children from her first marriage (three sons and a daughter).
Donald Wayne considered all these children as his and was a father to all in his extended family.
Lonnie Jo was the daughter of--
Allie Dale Shinn Senior (1898-1942)
and
Laura Lee Bradford Shinn (1902-1968).
