Columbus H. Moore, 63, former night captain on the Lincoln police force, died of a heart attack at 4:30 Friday afternoon at his farm near Mansfield, Missouri. He had been in failing health for the past year.

Mr. Moore was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and moved with his parents to Mansfield, Missouri. In 1909 he went to Alaska to mine gold and stayed there until 1914, when he came to Lincoln.

Mr. Moore served as a patrolman for three years and in 1917 was promoted to the rank of captain, which he held for two years. In 1920, after an unsuccessful race for county sheriff, he was made deputy sheriff. He served until 1923 when he joined the state prohibition enforcement staff. Later he retired in Lincoln and at Mansfield for the past seven years.

Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Mattie; three daughters, Mrs. Nellie M. Peters, Mrs. Mary E Bryant, and Mrs. Gertrude P. Jay, all of Lincoln; and two grandchildren, Barbara June and Jimmie Lee Bryant.
