Epimenia "Eppie" Gonzales Mirabal, 88, of Palmdale, California passed away at Palmdale Regional Hospital on May 26, 2021. She was born on July 18, 1932 in Gallup, New Mexico to Antonio and Rebecca Marquez Gonzales.

Eppie (as everyone knew her by) had to quit school at a young age to help support her family. She worked at the El Rancho Hotel in Gallup cleaning hotel rooms and washing dishes in the pantry. She met the love of her life, Gilbert Mirabal and they were married on November 17, 1947. They soon had a daughter, Rebecca, but she died of s.i.d.s.

Gilbert and Eppie moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. They soon had a son, Gilbert Jr. and a daughter Minnie, but lost another son, Georgie to s.i.d.s.. As their family grew they had six more children, Steve, Patricia, Larry, Rosemary, Catherine and Michael.

In 1967, Gilbert and Eppie decided to move to California. Soon their youngest child, Serafin was born for a total of 11 children of which nine grew into adulthood.

Eppie was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, She was a great cook too. She made the best Spanish foods including, tamales, red and green chile, tortillas and many other yummy New Mexican dishes that she learned from family before her. Even though we didn't come from wealth, mom and dad always provided and we never went hungry or without clean clothing and they taught us the value of hard work and respect of others. Mom had many friends and welcomed everyone into her home. Mom was a devout catholic and taught us the word of God as well. Mom's hobbies were going to play bingo when she could, playing Scrabble every Thursday with her daughter Cathy or anyone who wanted to play, watching the Dodgers play ball, and she loved going to Bible class with her friends.
