Millie was born in Springfield, Missouri to Rev. Virgil Brown Hammons (WWII Veteran) and Ruby Green Ayscue Hammons on November 24, 1946. Her father was a Baptist preacher who traveled the country building/pastoring churches and Millie lived in several different states while growing up. She always said that's why she was happy to live in the same home for the past 41 years in Ellenwood, Georgia.

Millie graduated from Ocoee High School in Florida as Salutatorian of the 1965 class. She attended Missouri State University where she graduated with honors with a BS in Education: History and a Minor in Spanish. She moved to Atlanta where she received her Master's Degree in History from Georgia State University. Millie dedicated her life to education and was a teacher at Wheeler High School in Cobb County for 30 years where she taught US History and American Government to mostly 11th/12th grade AP classes. She retired in 1999 but couldn't stay away from the classroom and spent the next 21 ½ years as a part-time substitute in the Henry County High School system. Millie was very invested in her students and spent time tutoring before and after school, and traveled several summers taking classes to East and West Germany and Russia. She also sponsored the Junior Civitans Service Club for many years.

Millie was known for her kindness, generosity and love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. That was shown each day through the love she had for her family, and she never missed a single event in her children's lives. She married Kenneth Marion Manry in 1980 and they moved into their home in Ellenwood that same year. She is survived by Kenneth, as well as her daughter, Kara Manry; and son, Matthew Manry. She is also survived by her sister, Dianne (Ed) Burts of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; her brother, David Hammons, of Charleston, South Carolina; sister-in-Law, Suzanne Hammons, of Orlando, Florida; brother-in-law, Winfield Manry of Cocoa Beach, Florida; brother-in-law, Jerry (Sharyn) Manry of Snellville, Georgia; and her many nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved her dearly. Her parents and brother, Mark Hammons, of Orlando, Florida preceded her in death and the family knows that they are having a grand reunion in Heaven today.

The family would like to thank her doctors and their staff at Georgia Cancer Specialists, Northside Hospital and the staff and nurses at Sacred Journey Hospice. They would also like to thank Millie's church family at Liberty Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Georgia, for the prayers, cards and flowers sent during her illness.

Due to COVID, Millie requested that her service be held at the graveside where people can socially distance and wear masks as appropriate. Anyone wishing to attend can gather on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home – Fairview Chapel in Stockbridge, GA shortly before 11am and will join the vehicle procession into Fairview Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest.

If you would like to donate in Millie's memory, the family requests those be made to the Aflac Cancer Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. https://www.choa.org/medical-services/cancer-and-blood-disorders. Also, Millie's favorite holiday was Christmas so the family also suggests Clark's Christmas Kids: https://www.clarkschristmaskids.com/
