Elijah L. Ground, 74, a native of Asotin County, died yesterday afternoon at 12:45 at Tri-State Memorial Hospital. he had been a patient at the hospital for the last three weeks, and had been in illhealth for several months.
He was born near Cloverland, June 16, 1878, the son of William and Sarah Ground, among the earliest settlers of Asotin County.
William Ground, the father of Elijah, was the first school teacher in the Cloverland area.
Elijah ground attended country school at Cloverland after the death of his father when Elijah was a small child.
He lived in Asotin and Garfield Counties all his life. he was employed on farms during his working years.
About six years ago he retired from farming because of failing health and moved to Clarkston. He was a patient at the Nelson Nursing Home at 1234 Chestnut.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Lewiston for many years.
He was never married.
He is survived by one brother, William Ground of Pomeroy, sheriff of Garfield County, and by many nephews and nieces in Asotin and Garfield counties.
