Verne L. Olson, 80, of Huron died Saturday morning, October 27, 2007 at the Huron Nursing Home.
Verne Lewis Olson was born May 14, 1927 at Virgil, South Dakota to Bernard and Veulah [Flishnam] Olson. He attended the rural Olson country school near Virgil. He then worked on the family farm.
He married Lenora Carpenter at Huron, SD on March 21, 1948. They continued to farm until 1973 when he sold the farm and they moved to Huron. He then started Olson Construction, which is now owned by his son, Lanny. In 1990 he started driving truck.
His family was the most important thing in his life, esp. the grandchildren and the family dinners. He also enjoyed working on and restoring old cars and machinery, playing cards, esp. "31", and traveling.
His survivors include his wife: Lenora of Huron; three sons: Lanny [Cheri] Olson of Huron, Robin Olson of Huron, and Randy [Jeanne] Olson of Huron; 5 grandchildren: Tony [Sarah] Olson, Brad [Nalyna] Olson, Jennifer Olson, Brittany Olson, and Zachary Olson: 4 great-grandchildren: Hunter Olson, Julie Olson, Ethan Olson, and Kayleigh Olson; 2 brothers: Eugene Olson of Huron and Allen [Betty] Olson of Huron; 2 sisters: Donna [Kenneth] Johnson of Tucson, AZ and Beulah Mundt of Huron; and one sister-in-law: Margaret Olson of Bend, OR.
Verne was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.
His funeral service will be Tuesday at Welter Funeral Home with Mr. A. M. Johnston officiating. Burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
