Rev. Louis A. Lowndes Age 71 of Battle Creek died Tuesday, December 4, 2001 as the result of an automobile / truck accident in Porter County, IN. He was born April 11, 1930 in Stratford, NJ to Edward and Georgeanna (Sherwood) Lowndes. He was raised in Berlin and West Berlin, NJ and attended Camden County Vocational School where he received his electrician training and certification.

At the age of 16 he received the Lord as his personal Savior, which changed the direction of his life. He graduated from Philadelphia College of Bible. In 1958, he served at The Estell Manor Community Church in New Jersey for 3 ½ years, 4 ½ years at Calvary Baptist Church in Ionia, and then came to Urbandale Baptist Church in Battle Creek where he preached his first sermon December 5, 1965. He also taught at Garden State Bible School in Atlantic City, NJ. In addition to his ministry he also sold and serviced water-softening systems to homeowners, farmers, schools and industry.

He was married June 21, 1952, to A. Grace Pyett, in Philadelphia, PA at the Church of the Open Door. She survives. Also surviving are his children, their spouses and his grandchildren, Kenneth L. and Rose Lowndes and Sierra and Jordan Lowndes of Lake Station, IN, Carol Joy and Don Stuck and Tim Stuck of Vicksburg, MI,Timothy and Gina Lowndes and Troy Lowndes of Grand Rapids, MI, David and Dena Lowndes and Sarah Lowndes of Lansing.

He was very knowledgeable of Church Doctrine, studied the Bible, did extensive research on creation and evolution and enjoyed teaching The Bible, Keeping True to The Word of God (Phil.1:6). He enjoyed helping others and was the Citizen of the Year for Urbandale in 1999. As Pastor Lowndes often challenged his church and his family, "Let's keep on keeping on".
