His mother died when he was five years old but he found a welcome and loving care in the home of his brother Franklin, with whom he lived till early manhood, coming to Fayette county in 1853. In 1871 he settled on a farm in Clay county, where he resided until his death.
He leaves a wife and three children, three sisters and five brothers and a wide circle of relatives and friends to mourn, but they are comforted with the thought that he sleeps in Jesus.
About six years ago he met with a severe bereavement in the accidental death, by drowning, of his oldest child, at which time he found peace and consolation in the Master's service; since when he has lived a devoted and exemplary Christian life.
The funeral services were held in the M.E. church at Ruthven, the pastor, Rev. R. Hill, speaking words of comfort from Psalms 16, 11.
