John Paul Sampson, 72, Marion, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021. He was born in Grantsville, West Virginia, on July 19, 1948, to Harley and Levinia (Wears) Sampson.

John graduated from Calhoun County High School. He retired from General Tire & Rubber after several years of service. He loved sports of every kind and enjoyed watching them on television. He also enjoyed hunting (especially mushroom), fishing, and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Sampson of Marion; son, Charley Sampson of Marion; grandson, Travis Sampson; granddaughter, Alyson (Aaron) Niverson of Ocala, FL; great-grandchildren, Aurora Niverson of Ocala, FL, and Asher Niverson of Ocala, FL; sister, Doris Hope (Wayne) Moore of Sweetser; sisters-in-law, Brenda Mace of Marion, Carol Swearinger of Grantsville, WV, and Cathy Booher of Sandyville, WV; brother-in-law, Shirley (Jane) Cottrell of Amboy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George Mace and Charles Mace; and sisters, Kay Cottrell and Marylue Cottrell.

A service to celebrate John's life was held on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN., with Pastor Robert Engle officiating.
