Billy "Bill" Floy McMurtre, 74, of Greenville died peacefully on Oct. 31, 2007, in Dallas following a lengthy illness.

Son of Floy Lee and Nannie Reed Courtney McMurtre, he was born March 11, 1933, in Cooper. Bill proudly served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and two years in the National Guard. He also served on the Jacobia Water Board and retired as a bus driver for Greyhound/Trailways Bus Lines.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Delores McMurtre of Greenville; two sons, Billy Lee McMurtre of Cumby and Donald James McMurtre of Cooper; one daughter, Phyllis and husband Scott Mahand of Greenville; a brother, Charles Don McMurtre of Cooper; sisters Robbie and husband Bobby Mulkey of Greenville and Marie Smith of Cooper; grandchildren Drew, Travis, Kay, Natalie and Madyson McMurtre and Katie, Kelli and Clint Mahand; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Lynch Funeral Service with Bill Shaddox officiating. Interment will follow in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
