He was born in Villa Rica, GA on February 6,1929 the son of the late Rufus D. and Vergie Cole McLarty. He lived his entire lifetime in this area, graduated from school and entered the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked as a welder for Ford Motor Company in Atlanta, GA, was a member of the United Auto Workers Union and retired with twenty-five years of service. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family and especially with his grandsons, doing cabinet work, at which he was quite good, camping and RVing, working in his garden and he loved the Atlanta Braves. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Buchanan, GA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Margie Baxter McLarty on May 8,2021; four sisters, Hazel Merritt, Bertha Hitchcock, Dura Grimshaw and Mae Harrison; and two brothers William McLarty and Paul McLarty.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Gulledge and her husband, Charles of Villa Rica, GA and Renee McLarty Arocho of Mulberry, FL; three grandsons, Cody (Kristy) Gulledge of Carrollton, GA, Connor Gulledge of Carrollton, GA and Caleb Arocho of Mulberry, FL; a great granddaughter, Emma Gulledge of Carrollton, GA. and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends at the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home on Friday September 9. 2022 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 9, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Byrd and Rev. Jason Hudgens officiating. The eulogy will be given by Connor Gulledge. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Chuck Gulledge, Robert Arocho, Caleb Arocho, Cody Gulledge, Connor Gulledge, Ronnie McLarty and Danny McLarty. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Villa Rica, GA with Military Honors conducted by the Honor Guard Team of Fort Benning, GA.
