Dura McLarty Grimshaw, 79, of Villa Rica, GA died Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Tanner Medical Center, Villa Rica.

She was born in Villa Rica, GA on March 26, 1939, the daughter of the late Rufus Dean McLarty and the late Virgie Cole McLarty.

Her earlier years were spent in the Villa Rica area where she attended Villa Rica High School, and then marriage, career and family carried her to Tucker, Rome and Snellville, and finally in 1992 back to her roots in Villa Rica. She worked for Lockheed for more than twenty years as a line technician before her retirement. Dura was a very beautiful, vivacious and fun loving person who liked to laugh and crack jokes and in general just light up a room when she walked in. She enjoyed things like attending and having garage sales, sewing beautiful clothes and re-upholstering furniture, however, she knew that a girl can't work all the time, so she tried to always have a bag packed for one of the many cruises that she enjoyed with family and friends. She was a great cook and loved to move around in her kitchen while baking and singing along with one of her great loves - non other than Elvis Presley. There was nothing in this world though that could light up her face with a beautiful smile and give her more pleasure and happiness than her son, Michael and she proved this by being a very dedicated and loving mother. She leaves behind family and friends who will miss her greatly for a long time, but she also leaves beautiful memories that will be remembered for a lifetime.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Merritt and Bertha Hitchcock; a brother, William D. McLarty; and the father of her son and her ex-husband, Stephen Chester Grimshaw.

Survivors include her son, Michael Grimshaw and her granddog, Roxie, both of Bethlehem, GA; a sister, Mae McLarty Harrison of Villa Rica; two brothers, Raymond McLarty and Margie, of Villa Rica and Paul McLarty of Yatesville; extended generations .

A visitation for family and friends to celebrate the life of Dura will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 from the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home beginning at 2:00 P.M. and ending at 4:00 P.M. with a song and prayer.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated following the visitation.
