James Keels "Jamie" Byrd, Jr, age 71, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, May 6, 2021 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC. Mr. Byrd was born in Darlington County on July 26, 1949 to James Keels and Doris Marshall Byrd. He attended St. Johns High School, and was a long-time employee of Sonoco Products in Hartsville, SC, retiring after years of service. He also was self-employed in farming and tree services. Mr. Byrd was a true outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, and gardening, and he was known for sharing his fruits and vegetables with friends and neighbors.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine Terpin Byrd; his two daughters, Melissa Byrd (Charlie Knotts) of Little River, SC and Merrie Leigh (Jody) Blaylock of Hartsville, SC; his grandchildren, Patrick "Chance" McClatchey, Trent Knotts, Reagan Knotts, Mitchell (Kayla) Knotts, Dustin (Jasmine) Knotts, and Myles Blaylock; his great grandchildren, Zayne and Lily Knotts; his sister, Linda Williams; and his special canine companion, Mr. Willie "Jingle." He is predeceased by his brother, Mark Byrd, and a grandson, James Hunter Knotts.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 2 PM at Grove Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home.
