James Keels Byrd, Sr., 75, of Darlington died Saturday, May 22, 2004.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 24 at 3 p.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Timothy Rogers and directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Byrd was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Whit Millen and Josie Kirby Byrd. He graduated from St. John's High School. He farmed and was employed by Sonoco Products Co. for over 43 years. He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Phillips Sunday School Class. He loved his church and served it in many capacities.

Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by a son, Marshall David "Mark" Byrd and by a brother, Whit Millen Byrd, Jr.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Marshall Byrd of the home; a son, Jamie (Elaine) Byrd of Darlington; a daughter, Linda (Jimmie) Williams of Darlington; a brother, Cecil W. (Pat) Byrd of Darlington; four grandchildren, Melissa McClatchey, Merrie Leigh (Jody) Blaylock, Elizabeth Williams, and Sarah Williams; and a great-grandchild, Patrick (Chance) McClatchey.
