Leon Chappell
  Washington / Torrey – Leon Don Chappell, 73, died May 7, 2021 in Washington, Utah.
  He was born July 13, 1947 in Salina, Utah to Don Austin and Betty Jean Rees Chappell. He was raised in Lyman and farmed with his family there. He helped herd cows and sheep on the Parker Mountain in his youth and raised potatoes. He went to Wayne High School and graduated in 1964.
  From there, he attended Utah Valley Technical College where he specialized in welding and mechanics. He was drafted into the army and served in Vietnam until 1971. When he returned home, he met and married Connie Jean Curtis April 4, 1973 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple April 4, 1997. They had two sons together, Chris and David.
  Leon worked for the park service as an equipment operator at Capitol Reef National Park for 23 years. On the weekends, he logged on the Boulder Mountain and sheared sheep in the Springtime. Upon retirement he and Connie continued their farm in Torrey where they raised cattle and were successful business owners growing hundreds of tomatoes and peppers and operated a septic system maintenance business. Leon liked to stay busy and was a hard worker. He liked to ride his horses and mules on the mountains. He was always willing to help his friends and neighbors. Leon had a good sense of humor, a personality all his own and a smile on his face.
  Leon is survived by his loving wife Connie; two sons Chris (Becca) Chappell and David Chappell; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister Marsha (Randy) Jenson; brother Jerry (Dortha) Chappell; mother-in-law Mary Jennie Curtis; he was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law Deloyd Curtis and stepfather Alfonzo Turner.
  Graveside services with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Honor Guard will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the Torrey, Utah Cemetery under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
