Maxie Adkins Rice, age 75, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Maxie was born on October 17, 1945 to her parents the late Kenis Newsome and Goldie Newsome Newsome. She was the wife of the late Willie Rice, a homemaker, and an original member of the New Hope Association United Baptist Church.

Along with her husband and parents, Maxie was preceded in death by her first husband, Orville Adkins, one son, Orville Lee Adkins, one brother, Preston Newsome, and three sisters, Rosetta Coleman, Inette Hamilton, and Vicky Akers.

Maxie is survived by one son, Kenis Gene (Melissa) Adkins, seven step children, Johnny (Pam) Adkins, Dale Adkins, David Larry (Rosie) Adkins, Donna Sue Slusher, Lucille (Eldo) Rose, Vonda Gail Werth, Bo (Larry) Bryant, one brother, Harrison Newsome, two sisters, Anna Smith, Brenda Musick, two granddaughters, Courtney (Nikolas) Johnson, Jamie (Daniel) Bowling, four great grandchildren, Lyllian Merrersmith, Robert Messersmith, Karmen Johnson, Vivien Bowling, two step grandchildren, Susan (Jared) Lynch, Pete Smith, two step great grandchildren, Katie and Kim Lynch, and a host of loving family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Friday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11:30 A.M. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Albert King, T.I. Hamilton, and Romey Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Cemetery.
