Abel Lamb married Almira Merrill in 1826. He chose school teaching as his profession. Brigham Young converted the Lambs when he was on a mission to New York. In 1833 they were baptized into the LDS faith by Joseph Smith Sr., and went thru all the trials with the members of the church in those early years. He commented that he had been driven from his home so many times it seemed perfectly natural. Abel and Almyra had fourteen children but lost eight as they died young under the harsh conditions of the time. Their children were Lisbon, Horace Merrill , Omer dy at 9, Edwin Ruthven, Brigham Young, Sarah dy at 2, Joseph Smith , Almyra, Abel Jr.,dy at 3, Enos dy, Levi dy, John Hyrum dy, William Miller dy at 18, and Zeruah dy at 8. He then married Elizabeth Esnouf and had two children with her, Elizabeth and Eva Lillian. After that marriaage failed and Almira died, he married Mariah Augusta Christena Sandberg, and was the father of five children.
