Joseph Smith Lamb's father and mother, Abel Lamb and Almyra Merrill Lamb, were converted to the LDS faith when Brigham Young was a missionary in New York. He named his next two male children Brigham Young Lamb and Joseph Smith Lamb. The land that is now the Mesa Cemetery was purchased from Joseph Lamb by the city. Joseph Smith Lamb married Harriet Cornelia Clawson September 4, 1857 and together they had thirteen children, nine who lived to maturity.
