Gerald "Joe" Allen was born March 9, 1942, in Wellman, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Alverda (Marek) Allen. He attended Wellman High School and entered the United States Army, serving three years. Joe worked at Northwestern Bell as a lineman then engineer for the company. After retiring he was an independent contractor for Qwest. He was united in marriage to Mary Della Ballard on July 30, 2011. Joe enjoyed watching TV, playing cards, working on projects with the family, eating Wheat Thins, Oreos and peanut M & M's, and saying "order whatever you want!"
Survivors include his wife Mary Della of Cedar Rapids; "The Kids" Angie and Anthony Allen; four grandkids: Aurora, Juston, Kaylyn and Ambrose; 25 nieces and nephews; three siblings: Mike (Becky) Allen of Wellman, Patricia Morse of Muscatine and Molly Allen of Ely; felines Tux, Meep and Cali.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents, one sister Jane McCartt and three brothers: Marlyn "Butch", Larry and Tom Allen.
