The infante Manuel de Bragança was the fifth son resulting from the union of the then Duke of Bragança João II (future king João IV) and his wife Luísa de Gusmão. He was born on September 6, 1640, in the ducal palace of Vila Viçosa. He died that same day, having been buried in the Convent of São Francisco, and then transferred to the Pantheon of the Dukes, in the Convent of Saint Augustine, in the same village.
