"Williamsfield, Illinois, Oct. 3, 1916 -- John Galpin, died at age 89 years, months and 27 days. He leaves a widow, five sons, and three daughters, grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. Mr Galpin came to Illinois when six years old to Jo Daviess County. He went across the plains in 1852 with an ox team to California. He came from California in 1853 and was married shortly afterward in Knox County, where he has been a resident since. He lived in his last home in Elba Township about two miles west of Williamsfield for years. He was among the last of the pioneers around here. He crossed Spoon River, near London Mills, 83 years ago when he came here with his parents." Galesburg Evening Mail (Galesburg, Illinois), October 3, 1916
