Albert Prugh, aged 56 years and 7 months, committed suicide at his home in Mechanicsville at an early hour last Saturday morning, March 24th 1923. He was a widower with no children, and lived with his mother, Mrs. Ann Prugh. He had been ill with grip several weeks ago, but was convalescent and had been in Westminster Monday previous on business. Saturday morning his mother, about 80 years old, went to the stable to feed his horses. Returning to the house she prepared breakfast and then called her son. When he did not respond she went to his room and found him lying face downward on the floor in a pool of blood. Neighbors and physicians were summoned; lifting the body they found him lying on a shotgun with a stove poker, which he is supposed to have used in firing it. He had placed the muzzle of the gun in his mouth and the load had torn out the back of his head.
Sheriff Edward Martin, State's Attorney Theodore F. Brown and Coroner R. Lee Hutchins made an investigation and decided an inquest was not necessary.
Funeral services in charge of Rev. John Fields, were held at the late residence Monday 26th, at 10 A.M., and interment was made in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The pallbearers were William N. Shauck, Harry Williams, Clinton Shipley, H.B. Gore, Frank Poole and Thomas Flater. F.A. Sharrer & Son, funeral directors.
