Eldean Wilkins, age 91, of Decorah, IA passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Wellington Place in Decorah.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue in Decorah.
A private family funeral service will be held at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church with Rev. Stacey Nalean-Carlson presiding. Burial will be in the Council Hill Cemetery.

Eldean Wilkins was born on March 3, 1930 the son of Wilbur and Nina (Cahoon) Wilkins on a farm near Marquette, IA. He finished elementary school in 1943. Eldean was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church in 1948.

He married Janet Dempster on December 20, 1948 at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Together they had three children: Dennis, Donald and Debra.

In 1950, they purchased and moved to a farm outside of Decorah where they farmed for thirty-nine years. In 1989, Eldean retired from farming and had a large farm sale after which he moved to a new house in the country.

In 1998, he moved to town in Decorah.

Eldean enjoyed flowers and gardening, his favorite being gladiolus and roses. He always had a large garden and enjoyed canning what he grew.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.
Eldean loved traveling and was very proud of visiting 48 states. One of his favorite places that he never tired of visiting was Yellowstone National Park.
He also greatly enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada.
After his move to town, he enjoyed watching birds, reading magazines and shopping for pretty treasures at the Depot Outlet.
He had a great memory and enjoyed reminiscing and telling stories from his younger days.

Eldean is survived by his children: Dennis (Mimi) Wilkins, Castalia, IA; Donald Wilkins, Decorah, IA; Debra Miller, Decorah, IA. Seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Sisters: Lorraine "Sis" Sacquitne, Decorah, IA; Marjorie O'hare, St. Joseph, MO; Ann Hotvedt, Decorah, IA; Lorna (Chuck) Duvel, Waukon, IA; Ruth Ann (Leo) Walleser, Menomonie, WI; Patricia (Dave) Vine, Colorado and Marcella (Gerald) Berg, Spillville, IA. Brothers: Richard (Susie) Wilkins, Karlisruhe, Germany; Kenneth (JoAnn) Wilkins, Tucson, AZ; Loren Wilkins, Decorah, IA; Kurt Wilkins, Ray, MN; Keith (Karen) Wilkins, Tucson, AZ and Niles (Denise) Wilkins, Ray, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Janet Wilkins. Parents: Wilbur and Nina (Cahoon) Wilkins. Granddaughters: Heather Wilkins, Elizabeth Wilkins and Nicole Fjestul. Brothers: Donald, Tommy and Robert Wilkins. Brothers-in-law: Forest "Bud" Sacquitne, Orvin Hotvedt and Jim O'hare. Sisters-in-law: Margaret Wilkins and Kathy Wilkins.
