Peter Hurd (February 22, 1904 - July 9, 1984) was an American painter whose work is strongly associated with the people and landscapes of San Patricio, New Mexico, where he lived from the 1930s. He is equally acclaimed for his portraits and his western landscapes.∼Artist. Peter Hurd was a painter of murals, illustrations, portraits and paintings. He was commissioned to paint the portrait of President Lyndon. B. Johnson. Hurd later returned the commission fee of $60,000.00 as the President did not like the artwork. Hurd created many other successful commissions. He died from pneumonia and complications due to Alzheimers Disease. He was cremated, with part of his ashes scattered and the remainder of his cremains buried at his homeplace, 'Sentinel Ranch,' near San Patricio, New Mexico. (bio: A. Burtrum-Stanley)
