DAVE H. CARUTHERS
Dave Hennen Caruthers died of a cerebral hemorrhage on July 4, 1949 at his residence, 102 North Hanson Street, after an illness of several months.
Mr. Caruthers was born on the Hennen Plantation, "The Retreat" near New Orleans on February 22, 1865, son of Charles Frederick and Francis Hennen Caruthers. He was educated in private schools in both the north and south. At the age of 23 he settled in New York where he married Mary Melville of that city. His business affiliations for some years were with the New York Central Railroad, and later he was connected with the firm of Parish, Allen and Co., Kentucky distillers. He retired from active business before prohibition and settled in Easton seventeen years ago.
Mr. Caruthers was a member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club and was keenly interested in all Maryland sports of gun and rod.
He is survived by his wife, his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Caruthers of San Antonio, Texas, his two daughters, Mrs. Frederick C. Bowerfind of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. G. Hilmer Lundbeck, Jr. of New York City, and his two granddaughters Mary Jane and Clare Lundbeck.
Services were held yesterday (Thursday) July 7th at 10 a.m. at Christ Church, the Rev. Durrie Hardin officiating with Lindsay Nordon of Philadelphia, organist. Interment will be later at the family burial plot in Kenisco, New York.
