The Carruthers family tomb (See: Article dated May 5, 1898, p. 3, Times-Democrat newspaper, New Orleans) was located in Girod Street Cemetery (Defunct), which was deconsecrated in 1957. At the time of deconsecration, families and interested parties were urged to relocate their family tombs and remains. Those who did not were relocated to Hope Mausoleum on Canal Street, and the reinterment of those remains is memorialized by a plaque. Mr. Carruthers may or may not be at rest in Hope Mausoleum.
He was the son of Madison Caruthers of Lynchburg, Tennessee and Anna Maria Bowen of North Carolina.
Caruthers was married twice: First to Sarah Elizabeth Hennen in 1847, who preceded him in death. Two children were born of this union: Anna Maria Caruthers; and Caroline Louise Caruthers.
He then married Francis Isabel Hennen in 1864. She was the younger sister of his late wife. Five children were born of this union:: Cora Morris; Alfrieda Hennen Carruthers; Elizabeth "Lizzie" Carruthers; D'Eve Hennen Carruthers. Grandfather to: Harold [Stoddard] Carruthers; Alfred Hennen [Stoddard] Carruthers; and, Juliet [Stoddard] Carruthers.
