A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was married to Josephine Christine (McGregor) Buckner for 62 years on Sept. 6, 2007 and had four children, Linda F. Chisholm (Gary), Brenda K. Prince (Mike), Thomas E. Buckner (Paula) and David L. Buckner (Denise). He was 1 of 2 sons of George Avner and Mary Anna Jennings Buckner,to whos final resting place is in Maple Hill cemetery in Huntsville. He was a veteran of World War II and Vietnam. He was involved in the occupation of Japan in WW II in 1945 and served with the 101st Airborne Div. in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star. For his action in Vietnam, he also received the Air Medal Award( 1st and 2nd )for combat missions. He also received the Army Commendation Medal for service 1966-1969, 1971-1971, and the Meritorious Service Medal from 1971-1978, among his many other awards. He retired a MSGT in 1978, a very proud man. He became deeply devoted to all of our POW's and MIA's of WW II and Vietnam and was always involved in the national exhibit of " The Wall ", a Vietnam memorial dedicated to those who never returned. He was also a Master Mason and served it proudly. He served proudly in all of his accomplishments he set forth.
