On Tuesday, April 6, 2021 Emily peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by her loved ones. Emily's unwavering fight against stage 4 lung cancer for 19 months inspired everyone who had the opportunity to know her.
Emily was born on May 19, 1960 to her loving dad Deward and her wonderful mother's Margie Hansen and Donna White. She has an amazing family of 9 siblings.
After meeting the love of her life at Valley Lanes Café, Emily married Joseph L. Syme on January 16th, 1981 in Kearns Utah. They have three beautiful children, Jared (Lacey), Joseph (Ashlee) and Tiffany (Devin). They also have three adoring grandchildren, Gavin, Kayden and Haven.
Emily was the most selfless and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved spending as much time as possible in the outdoors, hiking with her dogs and at the family cabin in Fairview. She enjoyed living an active and healthy lifestyle. Serving and volunteering was something that brought great purpose and passion to her life. Some of her best memories were spent at the Kanab Animal Sanctuary, Flaming Gorge, Boulder Mountain, and on her girls' trips with her best friends.
Emily was the most humble, open-minded, free spirited and artistic woman. She was an example for everyone that was lucky enough to know her. Her soul will always live on within us.
The family wants to thank her Oncologist Dr. Sonam Puri and the staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute for the amazing care they provided.

A memorial fund has been set up in Emily's name at America First Credit Union (9119835). Some of the proceeds will be donated to Huntsman Cancer Institute in her honor.

The viewing will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 11:00 AM – 12:45 PM at the Utah Sunset Ridge Chapel, 8834 South Duck Ridge Way in West Jordan, Utah. Services will follow on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Utah Sunset Ridge Chapel, 8834 South Duck Ridge Way in West Jordan, Utah. Interment will be at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
