Wiley was born in Angier on October 16, 1938, where he spent most of his life. He was the youngest child of the late Roy and Pearl Wilkerson and had the privilege of being raised in a very large, close-knit family as one of eight children. Wiley attended Angier High School and excelled on the football field, earning both All-Conference First Team and Honorable Mention All-State. He took great pride in the fact that most of his high school classmates maintained close relationships throughout their lives and he always looked forward to attending the regular reunions.

Wiley was the quintessential "blue-collar" man with hands tougher than leather. After growing up on the farm, he worked as a welder and pipefitter. He was a hard worker and was known for going to bed before dark and getting up before light. Even in his spare time, his idea of fun and recreation was working in the yard. Above all of this, Wiley's greatest achievement was his family. He found joy making sure everyone gathered for Sunday lunch, the holidays, and any other reason he could think of! Often, he could be found sitting back and smiling as everyone was happy to simply be together. He was a man of dignity, honor, and quiet strength that will be missed by many.

Wiley is survived by his very loving wife of 58 years Dorothy "Dot,"; children, Troy (Lynne), Rhonda Wilkins (Chris), and Travis. Grandchildren are Ashley Johnson, Rileigh Wilkins, Jessie Wilkerson and Duncan Wilkerson. Wiley will also be missed by a sister, Frances Karr of Baldwin, Kansas and many close nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his infant son, Shawn; brothers, Harold "Sonny Boy" (Jean), Willie "Brother" (Mae), Billy Ray (Claire); sisters, Charlotte Adams (Rex), Doris Dupree (Stacy), Shirley Watkins (Kenneth); and his beloved grandson Zachary Wilkerson.

A viewing will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm on Monday, April 5th at Angier Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 5th at Angier Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Thomas Allen and Grover Blackburn will be officiating.

Friends and family will gather at the home of Dot Wilkerson. Memorial gifts may be made to Angier Baptist Church or Transitions LifeCare Hospice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to caregivers of Transitions LifeCare Hospice.
