Wanette resident Mary Ellen (Shannon) Gregson, 72, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Norman Regional Hospital in Norman.
Mary Ellen Shannon was born Dec. 10, 1934, at her family homestead near Trousdale, Okla., the fourth of eight children born to Charley Shannon and Juanita Mae (Aker) Shannon.

She grew up in the Trousdale and Tribbey area, graduating from Trousdale schools in 1950. She worked for the Department of Corrections, retiring as Postal Supervisor in 1997. She raised her family in the Wanette area where she was affectionately known as "Mom" to everyone. She greatly enjoyed reading and spending time with her great grandchildren and especially taking frequent trips with Jaden. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita and Charley Shannon; her son, Mark Allen Gregson; and two brothers, Herbert Shannon and Jerry Shannon.

Survivors include her son, Keith Gregson and wife, Donna of Asher; three daughters, Elizabeth Garretson and husband, Charles of Macomb, Glenda Schwarz and husband, Richard of Sugarland, Texas and Kathy Gregson of Atoka; three brothers, Royce Shannon, Bill Shannon and David Shannon; two sisters, Charlene Sanders and Ronda Smith; four grandchildren, Mandy Bise and husband, Jason, Joe Garretson and wife, Cortnie, Skylar Gregson and Matthew Gregson; three great-grandchildren, Jaden Bise, Mark Garretson and Patrick Bartley; a host of other family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Adams officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Garretson, Richard Schwarz, Joe Garretson, Jason Bise, Tim Suchy and Danny Schoemann. Honorary bearers will be Kenny Meyer, Ben Stanley, Robert Skelly and Tara Satterfield. Burial will follow at the Wanette Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
