Bryson was a twenty-one year Army veteran who served in both WWII and The Korean War. He retired at Fort Bragg, NC in 1967 as a Master Sergeant. Following his military career, he worked for several years at Fayetteville Building Supply.
Bryson was born December 28, 1927 in Laurens County, SC to the late Garnett Franklin Sherrer and Frances Combs Sherrer. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rita Batson Sherrer, one son, Brian Allen Sherrer, three brothers, Cecil Sherrer, Larry Sherrer and Douglas Sherrer, and three sisters, Cornelia (Oscar) Davis, Ola Sherrer, and Norma (Jasper) Kicklighter.
He is survived by one son, Randy Sherrer and wife, Kathy of Raleigh, NC, and five grandchildren, Katrina Kirschner (Joe), Jason Sherrer, James Sherrer, Eric Sherrer, Mark Sherrer (Lindsey). He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Taylor Kirshner, Bryson Kirschner, Jaiden Sherrer, Haylee Sherrer and Dawson Sherrer.
Bryson was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Spring Lake, NC until he moved to Cary in 2011. At that time, he joined Bethel Baptist Church in Cary, NC where he loved to fellowship. Bryson also enjoyed football and Nascar, but he most enjoyed filling the role of "Poppy'' to his family.
A graveside funeral service and interment with military honors will be held on Thursday, April 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Bragg, NC.
