John E. Speelman, 60, of Gettysburg, died Thursday morning, Oct. 25, 2007 at the Gettysburg Hospital.

Born March 14, 1947 in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Belford and Viola (Baumgardner) Speelman. He was the beloved husband of Theresa M. (Althoff) Speelman.

Mr. Speelman worked at Oxford Container for 10 years, Dolly Madison for two years, and most recently at Knouse Foods for 25 years until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his two loving children, Tammy Speelman and James Speelman, both of Gettysburg; his two beloved grandchildren, Austin O'Dell and Sage Speelman; two sisters, Mary Moore of New Oxford and Pearl Gilbert of Biglerville; four brothers, Harold Speelman of Orrtanna, Joe Speelman of Abbottstown, Dwight Speelman of Hanover, Mark Speelman of Gettysburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Dixon and Marian Althoff; and two brothers, Stan Speelman and Preston Speelman.

Family will receive friends at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, Monday, Oct. 29, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., at which time the family will proceed to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial, with the Rev. Father Bernardo Pistone officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg.
