Sophie Mae "Allen" Marples, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Liberty Care Center, having attained the age of 95.
Born on June 13, 1922, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Henry Allen and Lilly Buck Allen. Sophie was a member of Pine Grove Community Church. She was a homemaker. She loved crocheting, flowers, and especially gardening green beans.
Ms. Marples is survived by three sons, Dale (Barbara) Marples of Liberty; Gene (Rhonda) Marples of Vero Beach, Florida; and Jeff (Karen) Marples of Liberty; ten grandchildren; Melodie, Beverly, Bobby, Aaron, JoAnne, Joey, Becky, Tyler, Nick and Brandon; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Other survivors include three brothers, Thad (Lorene) Allen of Liberty, Garnett (Vicky) Allen of Liberty, and Kermit (Connie) Allen of Hamilton, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Sophie is preceded in death by her husband, Unas Marples, who passed on October 27, 1994; a son, Elton Marples; three sisters, Loshie Peck, Waddie Browning and Margie Allen; and four brothers, Franklin Allen, Dee Allen, Omer Allen and Onsby Allen.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Gum Lick Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.
