Hazleton Man In Critical Condition
Little Hope Held for Recovery of Wm Dinkelacker Who Sustained Fractured Skull
William A Dinkelacker, 39, of 118 West Seventh street, city, was in a critical condition early this morning at the Fountain Springs Hospital, Ashland, where he was being treated for a fracture of the skull, sustained when the mast of a drilling machine fell 35 feet to his head, and his father was informed that the hospital officials held very little hope for his recovery. Oxygen was administered to the patient at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon in an effort to render him aid.
According to Dinkelacker's father, Jacob Dinkelacker, of this city, the injured man was engaged as a driller for a stripping company at Ashland. He is reported to have mentioned to his helper, after they had drilled a hole about 12 feet in coal for blasting purposes, that they would partake of lunch, when the timber mast of the machinery collapsed, and falling 35 feet, struck Dinkelacker on the head.
The blow fractured his skull along the top portion from front to back, rendering him unconscious. He had not regained consciousness up to early this morning, it is reported.
His wife, who before marriage was Miss Helen Zeigler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Charles Zeigler, of 119 West Sixth street, this city; Charles Zeigler and son, Paul, of Hazleton, were at his bedside last night and early this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zeigler and the victim's father, Jacob Dinkelacker, left after hearing of the accident Thursday and visited at his bedside.
Mr. Dinkelacker served for 23 months in the U.S. Army overseas during the World War.
